What we checked, and what this page is not
On October 12, 2026 we loaded both tidycal.com/pricing and
calendly.com/pricing in a real browser session with an en-US
locale, exercised Calendly’s monthly/yearly toggle, and saved screenshots plus text dumps. No
account was created on either site for this page — this is a terms-level comparison, not a fresh
hands-on run. We have previously tested both products’ free plans on real accounts: the
Calendly free-plan review (booking → confirmation → cancellation,
September 2026) is our own hands-on record, and the TidyCal feature claims below rest on the
vendor’s own pages plus our TidyCal pricing deep dive, which captured the
same pricing page and Terms of Service on 2026-10-05. Every number on this page says which capture
it comes from.
The one-table version
| TidyCal Free | Calendly Free | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 forever | $0 forever |
| Event types | Unlimited (captured 2026-10-12) | One (page copy: “One event type”) |
| Calendar connections | One | One |
| Paid bookings (Stripe/PayPal) | Included, with a 1% platform fee | Not included — Standard and up |
| Recurring & package bookings, coupons, subscriptions | Included on free | Paid only |
| Booking-page branding | TidyCal branding present | Calendly branding present |
| Move data in from the other tool | One-click Calendly importer (matrix row, 10-12) | CSV/ICS import; no TidyCal importer advertised |
| Paid tier right above free | Pro $12/mo or $99/yr ($8.25/mo yearly) | Standard $12/mo monthly, $10/seat/mo yearly ($120/yr per seat) |
| Cheapest one-time option | $29 lifetime (Individual, sold on AppSumo) | None — subscription only |
| Subscription refund window | 7 days (TidyCal ToS §21a, captured 10-05) | 14 days after monthly payment or 20 days after annual (per our Calendly refund check) |
The free columns are the whole story for most individual users, and they are not close on paper: TidyCal’s free tier includes the two things Calendly deliberately reserves for paying customers — multiple event types and taking money — while charging back through a 1% fee instead of a seat fee.
The 1% fee, and the break-even math
TidyCal’s pricing FAQ states it verbatim (captured 2026-10-05, unchanged in today’s text dump):
On the Free, Individual Lifetime and Agency Lifetime plans, TidyCal charges 1% on payments processed through Stripe, on top of Stripe’s own processing fees. Pro has no platform fee.
Note what that sentence also says: the $29 and $79 lifetime deals do not remove the fee. Only Pro ($99/yr) does. That produces a break-even we computed ourselves from the captured prices — these numbers are ours, not either vendor’s:
- Solo user, one calendar, collecting $5,000/yr: TidyCal free costs $50 in platform fees; Calendly Standard yearly costs $120 (and adds Stripe with no Calendly fee). TidyCal wins by $70.
- Same user at $12,000/yr collected: TidyCal’s 1% is $120 — equal to Calendly Standard yearly. Above roughly $12k/yr, the seat fee is the cheaper pricing model.
- Same user on TidyCal Pro ($99/yr): no platform fee at any volume, so Pro beats Calendly Standard yearly ($120) by $21 — and Pro also unlocks unlimited calendar connections and removes branding.
- More than one calendar connection. TidyCal Pro adds up to 10 connections for $99/yr total (the $79 Agency lifetime also lists 10); Calendly free lists one connection and paid features are priced per seat/year ($120/yr at Standard for one seat). We have not enumerated how Calendly maps extra calendar connections to seats, so verify that mapping before buying — the per-account totals diverge the moment anyone in the setup runs two calendars.
Stripe’s own processing percentage is identical in both columns because both route through Stripe — it cancels out of the comparison and is excluded above.
What free actually limits on each side
TidyCal free (captured today, 2026-10-12): one calendar connection, unlimited bookings and booking types, paid bookings with the 1% fee, recurring and package bookings, date polls, discount codes, subscriptions, ratings and reviews, guest invites — the free card and feature matrix tick all of these at $0. The platform-fee row reads 1% / 1% / 1% / None across Free, Individual Lifetime, Agency Lifetime and Pro; maximum calendar connections read 1 / 10 / 10 / Unlimited.
Calendly free: the page copy is “Always free — one event type, one calendar connection”, and our own September 2026 hands-on run documented one quirk worth knowing: we observed two event types coexisting on a free account even though the contract says one — see the Calendly review for the receipts and our wording (“contract limit vs enforcement observed”). Payments, workflows and group/round-robin scheduling all start at Standard. The cheapest paid step is $12/mo with no commitment, or $10/seat/mo billed yearly — today was our fifth live capture of those exact numbers ($10/$16 yearly with Save 17%/20% badges; $12/$20 after clicking Billed monthly), zero drift since 2026-09-02.
Where Calendly still wins
- Refund window. 14 days monthly / 20 days annual on Calendly vs 7 days on a TidyCal subscription. The AppSumo lifetime purchase itself has its own 60-day money-back guarantee, which is better than both — but it is AppSumo’s policy, not TidyCal’s.
- Ecosystem and maturity. Calendly is the generic verb (“send a Calendly link”); guests know its booking page. TidyCal’s matrix does list a native Calendly importer, which makes switching to TidyCal one click; there is no advertised reverse path.
- Teams above a handful of seats. TidyCal’s agency ladder tops out at 10 calendar connections on the $79 lifetime; Calendly’s Teams/Enterprise tiers (Teams $16–20/seat/mo; Enterprise “starts at $15k/yr, 50 seats” captured today) are built for organizations. TidyCal does not print an enterprise floor on its pricing page.
- Video meetings. Calendly routes to Zoom/Meet/Teams; our Cal.com comparison documents this in detail. TidyCal also integrates with the major meeting providers, but we have not run a live booking on TidyCal to compare reliability — neither should you assume it from this page.
Bottom line
For a solo practitioner with one calendar who takes under roughly $12,000 a year through the booking page, TidyCal free is the structurally cheaper choice and gives up surprisingly little (unlimited event types is the single biggest contrast with Calendly free). If you never take payments, TidyCal free costs literally nothing forever where Calendly pushes you to Standard the moment you need a second event type. Past $12k collected, or once a second calendar connection matters, TidyCal Pro at $99/yr is still cheaper than Calendly Standard — the real reason to pick Calendly is team scale, refund comfort, or the fact that everyone already knows the name.
All prices USD, captured 2026-10-12; re-check before purchasing, and read the TidyCal pricing deep dive for the AppSumo terms, 60-day license activation limit and the “existing paid accounts excluded” restriction before buying the lifetime deal.
