The short version

Macro is an all-in-one workspace — it replaces Slack, Notion, Zoom, and email in one install — and its pricing page, captured in full on 2026-09-21 in a proxied Chromium session, prints exactly two states:

Free Paid
Price $0, personal use, free forever $40 per seat / month for the first 5 seats, then $80 per seat / month
What you get The product with “Sent with Macro” in email signatures, limits on storage and AI “Your whole workspace: messages, docs, tasks, calls, email, unified search, and AI context”

There are no tiers to compare. Chat, docs, tasks, calls, email, search and AI are the same SKU — the page’s “Includes your whole workspace” line is literal. Which makes the seat ramp the only bill to model.

The 5-seat cliff, priced

Straight multiplication of the two printed rates (annual if paid monthly — Macro prints no annual discount on the captured page):

Team size Year-1 seat cost
5 seats $40 × 5 × 12 = $2,400
10 seats (5 × $40 + 5 × $80) × 12 = $7,200
20 seats (5 × $40 + 15 × $80) × 12 = $16,800

The marginal seat for everyone past the fifth is $80 — and half the seats in a 5-person team “expand to 10” more than double your blended rate. For context on the consolidation pitch: the same 10-person team paying Slack ($8.75–$15), Notion Business ($15–$24), and Zoom One ($13–$16) per head runs roughly $400–500/seat/month across the stack — Macro’s pitch is that one $80 seat replaces the row. That stack math is ours, not the page’s; the page only prints its own number.

The license line is the interesting part

The pricing-page FAQ (expanded in evidence image 2, matched in the rendered text) answers its own “Is Macro open source?” question:

“Yes — fully open source, not ‘open core’. As of May 31 2026 we moved from BSL to the AGPLv3, a copyleft license, meaning derivative works must also be open source.”

Three facts ride on that sentence:

  1. It’s true open source, unlike the loudest name in automation. n8n markets “fair-code” source availability with commercial restrictions; Macro ships AGPL-3.0 (repo license field and LICENSE file both agree — see Is n8n open source? for the comparison method). Copyleft means you owe the source when you distribute derivatives.
  2. Self-hosting is allowed but explicitly second-class: “Yes, under our AGPL license, though the hosted version is our primary focus today” — no managed feature gaps are promised.
  3. The dual-license door is open: closed-source builds need a different license, and the page prints the contact — [email protected] — in its own FAQ text.

Supporting facts printed on the same page: ~$30M raised led by a16z (with BoxGroup, 3kVC), SOC 2 Type II certified. Repository same-day read: 4,367 stars / 419 forks, pushed 2026-09-21 (GitHub API) — active, mid-size, one year into the AGPL era.

What we did not verify

  • We created no account: storage/AI limit values behind “limits on storage and AI” on the free card are not printed numerically on the page, so we cannot size them.
  • No annual-billing toggle exists on the captured page — we could not compare monthly vs yearly states the way we do on other tools; if yearly billing exists, it is not on /pricing.
  • The competitor-stack arithmetic in section two is our illustrative estimate from public list prices of other tools, not anything Macro states.
  • Refund, cancellation, and tax behavior: not printed on the captured page, not checked.

Verdict (terms-level, no score)

No star rating — nothing was installed or run. What the terms support: a rare single-SKU, no-tier workspace price with a real copyleft license behind it, where the only surprise is arithmetic (the $40→$80 cliff at seat 6). What the terms cannot answer: whether “all modules included” survives contact with the free tier’s unquantified storage/AI limits — that needs a hands-on, and we have not done one.
